Cold Weather Loving Plants:
Broccoli, Napa Cabbage, Tiara Cabbage, Winter Blend Kale, Lettuce, and Parsley
These seedlings can be put in the ground at any time after picking up your order. They can handle a frost and will not need ground cover. They do not like heat, so plant as soon as possible. They can bolt in heat, but many of these varieties are bolt resistant.
Moderate Weather Loving Plants:
Cauliflower, Rapini, Cilantro, Celery, Dill, Nasturtium, Calendula, Bergamot and Marigold
These seedlings can be put in the ground when the weather forecast shows above freezing temperatures at night. They prefer moderate temperatures. Wait to transplant until last frost has passed, but put in the ground before the very hot days. Cover if an unexpected late frost occurs, or bring indoors if growing in pots.
Heat Loving Plants:
Tomato, Winter and Summer Squash, Hot Peppers, Bell Peppers, Basil, Eggplant and Cucumber
These seedlings can not tolerate cold temperatures. Wait until ALL CHANCE of frost has passed. They prefer temps that remain above 10 degrees Celcius at night. It is even recommended by many growers to wait to plant these until the first week of June in Zone 4 - which is the zone for the Lanark area. If planting out earlier than June - keep a close eye on the night time temperatures and cover or bring inside if temps go below 5C.
While you are waiting to transplant, your seedlings can remain outdoors as long as temperatures comply. if cold, bring inside overnight and take back outdoors in the morning. If they have been indoors for several days, give them a few days outdoors again before transplanting.
